Dental Bridges
Woodburn, OR

Rendering of jaw with dental bridgeWhen you have a missing tooth, one of the options for filling in the gap is a dental bridge. It can either be something removable, or it can be something that is fused to surrounding teeth. Bridges are great for restoring your ability to eat and speak like normal, but they do need to be handled with care. If you have a missing tooth or two that you think could be fixed by a dental bridge, give us a call here at the Mid Valley Family Dental and let us work with you to see if your mouth would be better off with a bridge.

Basics of a Dental Bridge

A bridge is just what the name implies. It is a covering for a gap of missing teeth in the mouth. Bridges are only used to cover small gaps of just a few teeth; anything beyond that would require a partial denture. Dental bridges can be made of a wide variety of materials, ranging from metal and porcelain, gold, alloys, or some combination of these options. Typically, your dental bridge would be one or two false teeth, surrounded by two crowns. The teeth surrounding the gap in your mouth are trimmed down a bit, and the two crowns on the end are placed on top of the trimmed teeth and bonded there. This holds the bridge in place and allows your bridge to remain stable with use.

Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

When getting a dental bridge, it allows you to have some restoration to your mouth. The benefits of dental bridges include:
•  Restoring your confidence by allowing you to smile
•  Gives you back the ability to speak like normal
•  Allows you to chew up foods the way you used to
•  Evens your bite by distributing the pressure evenly
•  Keeps your remaining teeth in their proper positions

Dental bridges are a good alternative to leaving a missing tooth neglected. You do not want to leave that open spot open for long, because your jaw will deteriorate in the area where the tooth once was, and it could lead to all of the surrounding teeth shifting into new positions. This can lead to poor oral health, and issues with the surrounding teeth remaining healthy.
